Shoes Provide Comfortable Cushion Underfoot
Debuting in the 1989 All Star Game, Michael Jordan donned the highly anticipated sophomore creation of Tinker Hatfield (Godfather of Sole) for the first time. MJ went on to drop 28 points & 5 steals that night in the beloved Bred AJ4.
JBs latest masterpiece sported another mid-cut silhouette - but this time, The Godfather let performance take centre stage. Introducing a synthetic leather Durabuck, the material was a more lightweight & animal friendly option than its predecessor. The Air Jordan 4 also featured a molded layer of urethane-coated mesh, created by dipping the mesh in soft plastic and blasting air through, to clear it out - with the intention of making it more breathable.
That season, the GOAT averaged 32.5 points, 8 rebounds, and 8 assists. Once again, Jordan lead the league in scoring all while achieving the almost impossible, by also making the NBAs First Team All-Defense. Though he didnt make it to the finals for another two years, the '88-89 season was the first time Jordan brought the Bulls to the Conference Finals.
In the 1988-1989 playoffs, fans were on the edge of their seats during the closing stages of game 5 between the Cavs and the Bulls. With the series locked 2-2, both teams needed the win to advance. On May 7th 1989, with the last seconds of play, MJ drained a foul-line jumper over outstretched Cleveland guard Craig Ehlo. Seemingly hanging in the air for just a little longer than usual, Jordan etched himself into the history books. We know this moment today as The Shot.
Jordan finished the game with 44 points on 17-for-32 shooting, all while wearing the AJ4.
